3 billion people live on less than $2.50 per person, per day.
Since hearing this statistic my general life mission is to tangibly affect the world’s people in the most positive ways possible by innovating and using the resources and opportunities available to me. As a firm believer in human rights, I feel it is our duty as citizens of this earth to help others by giving them the means, and education necessary to lift themselves out of poverty. Microfinance, the process of giving small loans to borrowers who do not qualify for traditional loans to start small capital businesses, is a proven technique that achieves this goal. I hope you will share in my ideas, and help me affect true and lasting positive change for the world's double bottom billion.
This blog serves two purposes, (1) to help spread the news about microfinance and its effect on poverty elimination around the world, and (2) to help raise money to send me on a university organized experiential learning program to the Dominican Republic for one month. My goals for this trip include, but are not limited to: exploring my growing interest in poverty elimination through microenterprise, gaining general business exposure, improving my skills for working in teams, improving my cross cultural communication, and reducing cultural disparities from both the Dominican and American perspective. Thanks for visiting, and check back weekly for more information about the program, and microfinance in general!
